What is Play Therapy?
Play Therapy is a unique and effective approach to children’s therapy, utilising the universal language of play. Unlike traditional therapy, Play Therapy allows children to express themselves, explore their thoughts, and communicate their feelings in the most natural way possible – through play.
- Meaningful and Communicative: While play therapy might look like a lot of fun, it is not just play. Children’s play has meaning and is the most effective way for them to communicate and express themselves, rather than explaining their experiences by trying to use words they most likely don’t yet have.
- Expressive and Exploratory: Play Therapy allows a space for children to work through their big and difficult emotions and helps them to feel truly seen and heard throughout the process. In being seen and understood, children can heal and begin to move forward, grow and learn new skills.
Does my child need to be accessing therapy with you to engage in parent support programs?
No, all parents/carers can access these services. However, depending on the specific need of your family, your therapist may recommend you child also access therapy in order to address their issues also. You can discuss this with one of our therapists during your free phone consultation.
If I don’t like groups or I can’t make the scheduled sessions, can I complete the programs by myself or with my spouse/partner?
Yes, absolutely. We can tailor all of our programs to individuals/couples where this is more convenient. However, please note, the fees for individual/couple sessions will be higher than for group sessions.
